That's the kind of question that got me headaches when i tried to find the right user model and right data model for BlogWarp. (the server part - named Community Server -, and the client part - the iOS app for now)

What i finally did:

Users have an account on the community server, which is really an aggregator, more like FeedLand.

You can subscribe to feeds, any, hosted anywhere, and each user has a feed (the feed of his blog, that is NOT hosted on the community server. It's hosted anywhere).
Some of the feeds you're subscribed to are "external" feeds (that are not linked to any local user), some of the feeds are local users feeds.

I used to call them "users", and "virtual users". Which is kinda shitty confusing.

I tried using WordPress for the blog hosting part to do my testing, but i hit blockers, so i... created my own blogging server, so i had 100% control to add code i needed to make all my ideal set up work (while using the WP API etc...). That's where https://jy.blogwarp.com is hosted (on S3 actually). ok let's write that link like that even : @jy.

So my iOS app is more like FeedLand, as it's an aggregator, but we can also post on one's blog from there. Like FeedLand + RSS.Chat ?!

(Note that the iOS app is posting directly to the blog server API, not to the community server)

What's confusing for BlogWarp is that you need 2 (!) accounts, one on the community server, one for your blog somewhere. I tried to hide all this by creating both at registration, in the iOS app. Should be improved like 1000% :-/

What i got:
there is no reply to the post, even after reloading.

i have no idea where my reply went.

in some kind of hidden world where all the lost replies go...

the mention should point to the html homepage of the blog, that has the huge advantage of being a normal link in 100% of clients.

For NNW, i this clicking on a Universal Link should just show a popup with the name/avatar (and maybe the last items) of the RSS feed, and a big Subscribe button.

An alternative to the "Subscribe" menu item that opens a popup where you have to paste an RSS feed URL.

Note that it was weird, writing the reply the second time, i was sometime "stuck", i could not write anymore, like some code is doing stuff with the "SAVED" data or something and messing with the editing.

Sorry i cannot describe it better. Something was blocking the writing with the keyboard (macOS/Safari)

I had to reload the page and type a new post, to have an editing textarea without typing blocked

i was almost done and i clicked, i think, outside of the popup. it closed the popup, and when i hit "reply" again, empty editor, my writing gone.

i went to the "View Data" menu in the 3 dots menu, and found my post there, that i copy paster after removing the html tags.

Interop with other software is superior to interop with other instances of the same software.

Otherwise that's just another Bluesky or Mastodon federation, with their own dedicated protocols. (I think they are "complex" protocols, but that's subjective, as I can just be totally dumb and not smart enough to understand them :-D ).

And that's where all the bugs are really ironed out.

(I'm not sure "ironed out" means something in English, please check your preferred Frenglish dictionary :-D )

that i did not outline in the articles.

In my own software, all users(/feeds) have a kind of profile page (with subscribe/unsubscribe button). That includes "remote feeds", and users who have an account on the server.

That may not be the case of all software.

For example, i notice that for the moment, all RSS.Chat users are "local users" with an account there, there are no "external feeds".

So, integrating Universal Mentions might involve thinking about these two cases.

As a matter of fact, I still have to reply to Brent, who I emailed the Universal Mentions doc, and asked how i think he could integrate it inside NNW, as they do not have any notion of profile page.

Bug : i could not add the hyperlink on the text "Universal Mentions". The popup opens, i can paste the URL i want to link to, but what i validate and the popup closes, no hyperlink added.
